Heated Bathroom Floors

Heated bathroom floors are by far the most common radiant floor heating system found in American homes today for several reasons. First, most bathrooms utilize tile, slate and stone as their choice of floor covering making that early morning step into the bathroom or out of the shower a cold experience even in warmer climates. Secondly, small area bathrooms are a very inexpensive luxury to add to a home and can often be installed by a home owner or do-it-yourselfers before tile is laid.

How Much Will It Cost To Heat My Bathroom Floor
Operation costs for bathroom floor warming systems vary depending on your cost of electricity, how many watts or BTU's your system produces, and how you control your system.

Heat Output-Usually how many watts or BTU's your system produces depends on who designs the system or which product you purchase. 8-15 watts per square foot is the most common range for bathroom floor heating systems. Depending on how cold your climate is and how well insulated your floor is, 8 watts per square foot is plenty for most applications. By adding more watts per square foot your cost per hour of operation increases while the total time it takes to heat your bathroom floor decreases. More than 15 watts per square foot can be too much heat and may cause cracking to your tile or grout.

System Control-Radiant Solutions recommends an infloor sensing 7 day programmable thermostat for your heated tile floor. This gives total control over when your system is operating. For example, if you wake up at 6 AM you would program your thermostat to call for heat at 5:30. By 6 the floor would be warm and then turn down or shut off at 8 AM when you leave for work. This Thermostat gives you 4 programs per day and a separate program for weekends. A programmable thermostat will pay for its self in short time.

Choosing The Right Electric Radiant Floor Company For Your Project
Because heated bathroom floors is an incredibly large market for radiant heat companies there are dozens of products to choose from. Both UL and ETL lists all of the companies and their products that have met the rigorous US standards on their websites. Please be aware that the presence of the UL and ETL logos do not mean that the products are really listed. Price is often a good indicator. All of Radiant Solutions' products are tested and approved to UL standards.

There are various represented warranties out there and it is wise to read the fine print. Most warranties cover product repair or replacement only, and do not include labor nor the cost to replace tiles. Compare 25 year and 10 year warranties. Most of the time you will find that the 25 year warranty is pro-rated or may only cover 1 owner.
